What I Love About Music

Music has always been one of my greatest passions. Whether I am playing some of my favorite instruments, saxophone and guitar, or listening to my top artists, I feel a connection to the sound. When I was a baby, and even into my years as a toddler, I loved to dance, move, sing, and feel the rhythm. In fact, I can still remember the song that my brother and I would go absolutely wild for.

Once I got to elementary school, I picked up the electric guitar and would play every chance I had. I was a quick learner and wanted to play harder and harder songs. As I began learning more about music and discovering different genres, I started putting together playlists. Fast forward to the present, I have realized that music has always been there for me no matter what. Whenever I was sad, I would play The Rain by Calvin Harris so I could hear the chorus which had my favorite line: “so put on a smile and it’ll be alright”.

Music soon became an integral part of my life. I not only listened to and played it, but I also believed in it. My favorite artists became my guiding light. I listened to their carefully crafted lyrics and thought about how I could apply certain lessons to my life. I thought about how I could affect my mood based on what song I was listening to. In my opinion, music can be one of the most truthful and impactful sources of media. Just like anything else, it is important to find the good in it to get the best out of it.
